SOILS: Solar on Landfills and Brownfields
As an increasing number of U.S. landfills reach capacity each year, they are closed by capping with high-density polyethylene, followed by a thick layer of soil and grass. So, what happens next? That is the challenge that government agencies and landfill owners face. After a site is closed, the landfill surface area is generally not suited to traditional development. Therefore, implementing a renewable energy resource, such as a non-ground disturbing solar solution, creates a win-win solution.
SunPods Solar Operational Integrated Landfill System (SOILS™) is designed to easily deploy solar electric systems on closed landfills. The SOILS™ solar units are factory-built and delivered to the project site, set into place, and ready to power-up. The SunPods solar system requires minimal site preparation, no on-site assembly or ground penetrations. Additionally, the power adjustable legs can be individually adjusted to accommodate for the landfill's settlement over time. The flexible design enables site managers and owners to install SunPods solar arrays starting with small commercial systems to cover the site's energy needs to utility scale solar energy farms.
